Wow! With work / walking and hiking / another little project, I’ve gotten myself behind again. As usual, time to play catch-up. I’m a couple of months behind. So, as I start some of my posts, there still won’t be many leaves on the trees, even though now, everything is so vibrant and green.
On this date, we planned a few short walks at 3 different locations. Our 1st location today was Todd Island Park in Todd, NC. Couldn’t really find much on it on the internet. Even had a hard time trying to find out how to get there, but was finally successful.
Todd Island Park is such a peaceful little area. It’s about 3 miles outside of Todd’s historic district. When you arrive, you park in a little gravel parking area. The walkers share this parking area with the trout fishermen. A very nice bridge has been built from the parking area over to the island. You’re entire loop walk is on this island in the middle of the South Fork of the New River. It’s a very easy 1 mile loop. The trail is a mowed grass trail. There are little trails off to the side here and there so you can get down to the river. There are nice views around the area.
Just not much to say about such a small area. Just a nice / peaceful little area.
Getting there: All I could find on the internet was “Railroad Grade Road at Castle Ford, Todd, NC”. I finally did this to find the parking area. We used Google Maps. Pulled up directions from Boone, NC to Railroad Grade Rd., Todd, NC. Following the directions given, once you bear left on Todd Railroad Grade Road, watch for the bridge that crosses the river on your left (Castle Ford Rd). Don’t cross the bridge, but park in the “Todd Island River Access” parking area.
Here are a few photos from that day. The photo at the end is not at the island. I tell you. It’s a beautiful drive out to the island. There’s some beautiful farmland. On our way out, we stopped and took some photos of a farm that was just gorgeous.
Really enjoyed reading this blog entry. One minor correction – there is a photo labeled “Looking down-river at the far end of the island.” The view is actually looking up-river, in the direction of the Todd Historic District. Just beyond the edge of the grass (and underwater in this photo) is a small pebble/stone/rock-covered area that we call Pebble Beach. My wife Karen and I were married standing on Pebble Beach on March 5, 2017.

Well, how cool that you were married there. Cute island / spot. Thanks for letting me know. I’ll get that updated.
